What is a System of Record
A source or system of permanent record (PR) is an information management term referring to a system of storage and control of permanent data that has been used over time by an organization, organisation or business.
The term permanent refers to the fact that data is usually maintained in a centralized location (a permanent data repository or database). However, there are instances when the records can be maintained elsewhere (as in the case of a temporary data repository or database). Regardless of how the data is maintained, the purpose is always the same – to keep a complete and accurate copy of the information in question for future use.
